It is finally happening… Comic Con Cape Town is finally happening, so prepare to geek out two months from now.
Africa’s biggest Pop Culture event will reach the shores of the Mother City in April and I can’t wait to experience a different kind of comic con. The convention will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre or the CTICC from 27 to 30 April, which means it’s in exactly two months.
If you love movies, comics, TV, cosplay, gaming, different fandoms and pop culture, then this is the place to be. And that’s not all; you’ll also get to hang out with some great artists, awesome writers and celebrities from your favourite movies and shows. These stars will be announced soon.
The event will showcase the work of more than 100 African and international artists, illustrators and writers. You can find everything from comic books to graphic novels to personalised art pieces at Comic Con Cape Town. And after last year’s return of Comic Con Africa, I can’t wait to see what the organisers have in store for us.
So far it’s been confirmed that British comic artists Ian Churchill and American Illustrator Mark Brooks will be in attendance. They will be joined by Zimbabwean-based illustrator Bill Masuku. South African artists such Sean Izaakse, Loyiso Mkize, ClydeBeech, Karl Mostert, Mohale Mashingo and Warren Louw will also be at the con. The Artist Alley will be curated by FanCon.
One of the most prestigious guests at Comic Con Cape Town is renowned local cartoonist Jonathan Shapiro, known as Zapiro. Along with the main con, fans can also look forward to the Cape Town International Animation Festival (CTIAF) which will be co-located with Comic Con Cape Town.
That’s not all, we can also look forward to StreetCon and the Mother City’s own award winning illustrator, street artist and letterer, Keith Vlahakis will also be in the building. KidsCon and StreamerCon will also make a return.
There are so many epic things to get excited for and I will be sharing more on Comic Con Cape Town over the next two months. So to see what’s going on subscribe to my YouTube channel and go check out my social media page, because this is going to be a Con to remember.
