My initial thoughts while watching Dune: Part Two were, “wow, this is amazing”. My initial thoughts after watching it were, “wow, that was amazing”.
To be honest, the movie left me kind of empty but only because I didn’t want it to end. It was spectacular from start to finish. Is this review only going to praise the masterpiece that is Dune: Part Two? Yes, it is.
I thought the first Dune was good, not great just good. I know that’s a hot take, but I still liked it a lot. And after this movie, I think Denis Villeneuve can do no wrong. He understands the Frank Herbert novels and that’s why he can transform it into one of the greatest movie franchises ever.
Let’s talk about the cast, everyone was exceptional. The returning cast really impressed me, with Zendaya truly standing out. TImmy was amazing as usual, Rebecca Ferguson was brilliant, Stellan Skarsgård was wonderful and Javier Bardem stole every scene he was in.
Austin Butler really has no bounds to his acting ability. The dude literally looked like the love-child of a War Boy and Conor McGregor and fave a stellar performance. The dude stole the show. His take on Feyd-Rautha Haronnen was menancing. It’s been a while since we saw such a great villain on the silver screen.
Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux were all impressive. The story does all characters justice. Seeing Paul Atreides go from lost boy who grew up with a silverspoon stuck somewhere, into the saviour of the Freman and general of the war on Arrakis is phenomenal. It’s such a beautiful written character.
Visually this movie is beautiful. I got to see it in IMAX, which I now realise is the best (and only way) to watch it. If you can’t see it in IMAX, then still go watch it because you have to see it in cinemas. Dune: Part Two is a movie that keeps you grounded in the setting and the action.
The action scenes are fantastic, I wish all movies could look this good (looking at you Marvel and DC). The fight choreography is next level awesome. The fight between Feyd-Rauth and Paul is one for the books – it’s simple, elegant and yet awesome.
I can go on and on about how awesome this movie is, but all I want to say is… Go watch Dune: Part Two. If you love romance, then this movie is for you. If you like action, then this movie is for you. If you like political thrillers, then this movie is for you. If you like cultural films, then this movie is for you. This is a movie for everyone who loves cinema (but you should probably leave your kids at home).
This film deserves all the praise and I hope when the next awards season roles in, it will get its accolades. Dune: Part Two is a modern day masterpiece. The cast and crew really brought their A-game.

Wonderful review – keep up the good work!
My spouse and I saw it in the theatre this past weekend and ABSOLUTELY loved it. I honestly could have gone for another 1 hour, a testament to the quality of the movie because you do not feel it’s runtime. I especially agree about the striking visuals – beautiful landscape and location shots, impeccable CGI and a simple yet effective final fight (the lack of score during the really added to its impact). Speaking of the score, it still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, not to mention the absolutely great sound design (the last movie having such great sound was probably Top Gun Maverick). Anyways, I’m glad you enjoyed the movie and I await your next review.
