The Boys are back, but the fourth season is off to a rocky start.
The new season picks up after the season 3 finale with Soldier Boy gone and Homelander being the ultimate hero to the alt-right. Things aren’t going easy for the supe, as he is on trial for murder. At the same time the Boys are working to bring down some corrupt supe politicians.
The first three episodes of the show is out and unfortunately it just doesn’t seem to be as good as the first three seasons. I would’ve loved to see more of Homelander’s trial and to actually hear him testify to justify his actions.
The action is there, but it doesn’t seem as crazy. This season feels more politically driven than anti-superhero. It’s all about the conservatives vs the liberals, and honestly we have more than enough of that going on in the real world. I get it, the show wants to give us a sense of the real world but it does take away from the story a little.
The best thing is they dive into the effects of Compound V and Butcher is no longer the tough guy he used to be. It’s different to see him vulnerable and a little down on his luck, a good kind of different. The character growth this season is also amazing.
We see more characters progress from who they were when the series started. Hughie really learns to step up, while A-Train starts seeing the errors of his ways. I don’t want to spoil the series, but it’s great to see things being changed up.
There haven’t been any big shocking scenes so far, but I can’t wait for that. I really want to see what Homelander and Butcher will get into next. I know we have one season left to go, so hopefully this season ties up a few loose ends.
This show is once again not for everyone, but fans of the show will be entertained. I’m not feeling this season yet, but hopefully it gets better with newer episodes.
