There is a storm brewing, and I hope you are ready for it.
Twisters pays homage to the disaster movies that came before it, including its predecessor, Twister. It’s a good movie made great by exceptional performances from Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell. This movie can easily be one of the biggest films of the year, but it all depends on the audience.
I wasn’t as hyped for this movie, but the closer it got to the release date, the more excited I got. I’m just here for Glen Powell, but I stayed because it’s such a terrific movie. There hasn’t been a good disaster movie in a long time, but I think this might be it. This is the good one we’ve been waiting for.
The first film was such an original concept, we all knew what tornadoes were, but we didn’t really understand them. And with the introduction of the internet and social-media we got a better view at “twisters”, so why do we need this movie?
Well, for one thing, Glen Powell and another thing it actually takes you into the heart of these storms. It blurs the line between fact and fiction to give you a story that keeps on the edge of your seat. The movie asks important questions like, how can we stop these tornadoes from destroying lives and taking lives? It takes a look at things like the impact of climate change and the influence of social media.
It’s not one of those movies that try to hit you with social commentary over the head, but it does make you ask questions. The movie is also visually stunning, but I don’t think that justifies the extremely high budget.
Once again, the brilliant acting makes me love this movie and there’s actual great character development. The film’s runtime allows for the story to be driven forward, while at the same time giving us enough time with the characters to care about them. And the main duo has amazing chemistry.
So what do I really think of Twisters? It’s a great movie that does exactly what you’d expect of it. It doesn’t rewrite the disaster film genre, but it feels like it’s bringing it back. The direction is great, and I do think it has a great score. Like usual, I don’t want to focus on the negative but on what I love about this movie. And what I love about it is that I know I can watch it again.
