Shattered Dreams

Have you ever been so close to something you’ve been working a long time on, and then sudden it gets taken away from you?

Have you ever been so close to something you’ve been working a long time on, and then sudden it gets taken away from you?

I once worked on this major project. I had been working on it for a looonng time, give or take 5 years. It was supposed to be my big break, I feel like I invested everything I had into it. I was on brink of reaching my ultimate goal and then it all shattered.

I was hours away from the biggest change in my life and then it all disappeared. And when I say I dreaming of making this happen, then I literally mean it was part of my dreams and now it’s all gone. Every minute I spent on making this thing happen was wasted time all of a sudden.

The thing that hurt the most wasn’t the fact that I spend so much of life working on it, but the fact that it was taken away from me before I could truly prove myself. I know I would’ve been an ideal candidate for this project, I was more passionate about it  than anyone else.

I loved working on it, in fact working on it gave me the courage to expand my horizons. It gave me a reason to try something new. It inspired me to work harder and to take on impossible challenges, I guess you can say it turned me into the Ethan Hunt of the media world.

I tried to move on from the disappointment after being “rejected”. I still keep telling myself that it might have been for the best. I might have lost time to making it happen, but at least I gained experience. Unfortunately experience doesn’t pay bills, but time can.

Anyway, the lesson from all of this is that dreams can be broken. Wishes can disappear and sometimes prayers can go unanswered. Things don’t always work out and sometimes there is no reason why it didn’t happen. Life just happens, it is what is. Yet that doesn’t mean you have to take it and not try again.

Glass fall and break all the time. The shattered pieces are like shattered dreams – you might not be able to put it back together, but you can still melt it down and shape it into something different, something new. The lessons I learned while working on the project are the shattered pieces and right now I’m working on shaping it into something new.

It might take another 5 years to work on that or it might be 5 months, I don’t know yet – all I know is that I’m not letting a shattered dream stop me from dreaming again. My journey might have been hard and the destination might not have been what I expected, but a part of me is grateful that I kept moving.
