The next part of my journey requires a little more than I thought it would, and hopefully you read this whole column.
My name is Barry, and I’m a freelance journalist and content creator who has been working tirelessly to build a brand that celebrates movies, TV, gaming, and pop culture— The Movie Guy.
Right now, I don’t have any standing contracts or full-time income. I’m navigating the tough but rewarding world of freelancing, relying on my passion, consistency, and creativity to keep The Movie Guy alive and growing. I’ve poured everything I have into creating content, engaging with film fans, and showing love for the industry I adore.
This year, Comic Con Cape Town is more than just an event—it could be the turning point for me. It’s a space filled with the exact people, opportunities, and inspiration I need to take The Movie Guy to the next level. From networking with fellow creators and industry professionals, to covering exclusive panels and interviews for my platform—Comic Con could be the springboard that helps this brand grow into something even bigger.
I’m not asking for help to fund a vacation—I’m asking for help to invest in my dream. Your contribution will help me cover essential expenses: travel, and basic on-the-ground costs, so I can focus on doing what I do best—telling stories, making videos, and representing the South African and Namibian geek and movie-loving community.
If you’ve ever enjoyed my content, if you believe in the supporting independent creators, or if you simply want to see someone chase their dream with everything they’ve got—please consider supporting this campaign or sharing it with your friends. Every little bit counts and means the world to me. Just fill in the form below if you’re ready to commit to supporting me.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Let’s get The Movie Guy to Comic Con Cape Town!
With love and popcorn,
Barry aka The Movie Guy
