My Comic Con Journey Starts Today

It’s official, I’m on the media list for Comic Con Africa 2025 and honestly, I don’t want to miss out.

It’s official, I’m on the media list for Comic Con Africa 2025 and honestly, I don’t want to miss out.

Part of why I do what I do is to bring events like these to my followers and subscribers. I know not everyone can attend Comic Cons, but they still want to feel like they’re there. They want to hear the guests’ stories, they want to see what’s new in the pop culture and gaming world. And they want to experience a place where they can just be themselves.

Comic Con Africa has always been something special. I remember going to my first Con in 2019 and for the first time I felt like I belonged somewhere. I made friends, I chatted with some of the coolest cosplayers and geeks. And I finally found something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I was just a journalist who didn’t know where he was heading next when I got there. The moment I walked onto the convention floor, my path was set. I knew that I wanted to be a journalist who reported on something I love. I wanted to talk about movies, TV, gaming, comics, and pop culture.

Comic Con added fuel to The Movie Guy dream. Before then I was just writing movie reviews and hadn’t even thought about doing videos or exploring the possibility of creating any other content. The Movie Guy was inspired by strangers and their love for the things I love.

I wanted to interact with other geeks through my stories and eventually videos. I wanted to share my knowledge and love with everyone. Flash forward to Comic Con Africa 2022, that’s when I really started to find my footing and that was also the last Joburg event I attended.

So, this year, I hope to go back. I want to once again experience the one thing that solidified my dream as The Movie Guy. I’ve been struggling with continuing, as most of you all probably already know. I’m taking a break from The Movie Guy, but I feel like I owe it to myself and to everyone who helped me get here to at least try and go to Comic Con Africa.

The Comic Book you can win is Silver Surfer Black #1 Signed by Donny Cates

To help make that happen, I’ve launched a few fundraisers to cover the costs of the trip and replace my dying laptop. This laptop is my lifeline. It’s what I use to write, edit videos, run my blog, and share content with all of you. And if you’d like to contribute to my fundraiser or help spread the word, I’d be incredibly grateful.

I’m also running a small comic book raffle to raise funds and one lucky winner will walk away with something special. It’s an easy way to support my journey while standing a chance to win a cool prize. Details are on my page, and I’ve tried to make it as fun and fair as possible.

Thanks to everyone who’s already donated, shared, or simply offered words of encouragement. It really means the world.
