Hello there
I can’t believe we’re about to enter the last quarter of 2025; 250 movies later and I’m actually excited to see what’s next on the silverscreen.
I can say the year has mostly been good to me. The theme for the year so far has been gratitude. I’m grateful for everything I’ve been able to achieve and for all the support I’ve gotten over the last 9 months. It’s really been a blessed year and there’s still so much that I look forward to.
Obviously, the highlights have been Comic Con Africa 2025, making new friends, interviewing Misha Collins and the 13th Silwerskermfees, but so many other wonderful things have been happening behind the scenes. Hopefully I can share some of that with you before the end of the year.
Anyway, this newsletter is to cap off the last 3 months and to tease what’s to come.
What I’ve Been Up To
Social Media
I don’t want to bore anyone with social media stats, so all I can say is, thank you for following along and supporting my work. The likes, the shares and even the occasional comments really helped a lot. I’ve more than doubled my following since the start of the year.
Writing Projects
When the year started I set out to write a few stories and maybe a novella and script and I haven’t really gotten round to doing that. I know, I’m a little disappointed in myself – I think I might have writer’s block. I have the ideas, but I struggle to write them out. The good news is, I’ve been expanding on my ideas and hopefully this will lead to finally getting started on those stories. There are 2 in particular that I’ve actually done extensive planning on and it might still be done before December.
My Other Projects
I still publish a weekly column in the Republikein, something that I’ve really been enjoying. I have the opportunity to share a different side of The Movie Guy with my Namibian and Afrikaans friends and followers.
What’s To Come
Giveaways
Running various giveaways is my way of saying thank you to new and loyal supporters. The reason I do what I do is because of my love for cinema and my dream to get people back in movie theatres. So, I’m going to continue giving away movie tickets and maybe I’ll do another 12 Days of Christmas giveaway this December. All you have to do is help me get to 15 000 followers on Instagram.
New Projects
I’ve been thinking about doing a weekly or bi-weekly video series, though I’m not yet sure what form it might take. It could be ranking movies, actors, or TV shows. And that brings me to something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time: a podcast or a weekly entertainment news show. I tried it before, but it didn’t quite work out, but I think it’s time I gave it another shot.
Let’s Talk Movies and TV
My Favourite Movies (July – September)
- Superman – A fresh and heartfelt take on the Man of Steel that balances action and hope. I know a lot of people are split on this movie, but I actually think it is fantastic.
- Fantastic Four: First Steps – Marvel’s first family finally gets a worthy and exciting introduction. This movie wasn’t what I expected, but I still really enjoyed it.
- The Naked Gun – A hilarious and chaotic comedy revival that had me laughing throughout. Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson is the comedy duo I never knew I needed.
- Weapons – A gripping horror-thriller that keeps you guessing until the very last scene. This is a reminder that original stories are almost always a good idea.
- The Long Walk – A moving drama about endurance, loss, and the search for redemption. This has to be the best Stephen King adaptation of the year, I think I might’ve actually cried while watching it.
- Honourable Mention: One Battle After Another – the only reason I don’t count it in my top 5 is because it’s just on another level. It might actually be my favourite movie of the year.

TV Recommendations
- Alien: Earth – A tense and thrilling continuation of the Alien universe with fresh horror elements. I don’t know how people might feel about the canon retcons, but I appreciate most of it.
- Task – A clever and engaging series about ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges. This show is surprisingly awesome and if you’re not yet watching it, then you’re missing out.
- Chad Powers – A witty, funny, and surprisingly heartwarming so far. I hope it gets even better, but so far I enjoy Glen Powell’s work.
- The Paper – A new addition to The Office universe and I’m already in love with it. I’m not going to compare it to the original show, but I can say it is better than The Office season 1.

My 5 Most Anticipated Movies for the Rest of 2025
- Wicked: For Good – The long-awaited musical adaptation finally arrives with soaring spectacle. It’s definitely my most anticipated movie of the year.
- The Smashing Machine – A gritty sports biopic that promises powerhouse performances. I’m excited to watch Dwayne Johnson come out of his comfort zone
- Now You See Me, Now You Don’t – Another mind-bending entry in the magical heist franchise. This is one of my favourite franchises, so of course I’m excited.
- Frankenstein – A bold reimagining of the classic monster tale. I love Guillermo del Toro and Oscar Isaac, so I can’t wait to see them team up.
- The Running Man – A modern update of the action-packed dystopian classic. Another Stephen King adaptation, and who knows it might actually be the best.

A Quick Note on Support
Creating content, sharing stories, and keeping this journey going means a lot to me—but it also takes time, tools, and a bit of help along the way. - Join my Patreon – Some of my eBook cookbooks, poetry bundles, and exclusive audio content are now available there.
- Buy Me A Coffee – Make a donation to buy me coffee or to invest in my work and equipment.

- Send a message – Is there something you want to talk to me about? Why not send an email to themovieguy.nam@gmail.com.
I’m currently working toward upgrading my gear (especially my laptop and microphone) to create better content, faster, and every bit of support helps make that happen. Thanks for being part of this journey.
That’s it from me for now, thank you for sticking with me through the last 9 months. Whether you read, watch, like, or share, your support means the world. Here’s to more great stories, better content, and a strong finish to 2025.
