Is Wicked: For Good any good? Yes, I believe it’s wickedly good.

I absolutely like this film. Even though I still think the first one was better, this sequel delivers a magical and emotional experience that fans will appreciate. Yet it feels like something is missing. The first one felt a little more magical, but let’s talk about this movie first, because it definitely deserves attention.

One of the strongest aspects of Wicked: For Good are the performances. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are phenomenal. Their chemistry and vocal power carry the emotional weight of the story, and both deliver show-stopping moments. Jeff Goldblum, as always, brings his unique charm and presence to the screen, and Michelle Yeoh is force to be reckoned with.

The songs are great, catchy, and beautifully performed, but there are only a few that really stand out. I love the musical’s music and I loved that first movie’s music and yet I don’t feel a deep connection to the music in this film.

The production design is simply amazing. The world they created looks so beautiful and so spectacular that it feels real at times. Every location, costume, and set piece just pulls you deeper into Oz, making it a visual feast for the eyes. It’s one of those films where you can pause almost any frame and admire the craftsmanship.

Now, let’s talk story. I do feel like it has the necessary emotional beats, but it doesn’t explore them enough. The first movie had an amazing story that really blew me away. It felt layered, surprising, and deeply impactful.

This one has a story I do like, but I think maybe I expected something else from what we get in the musical. It doesn’t compare as positively to the first one, and certain emotional moments could have hit harder if they were given more time to develop.

That being said, if you are a fan of the musical, then you will absolutely adore this one. If you loved the first movie, then you will definitely like this one. Some people might actually like it more, but unfortunately, I’m not one of those. Still, I believe Wicked: For Good is worth watching, and it is absolutely best experienced on the big screen.

As you know, we had the fan screening in Cape Town, which was fantastic. Once again, thank you to everyone who came out, who bought a ticket, and who came to celebrate this movie with us.

L to R: Ariana Grande is Glinda and Cynthia Erivo is Elphaba in WICKED FOR GOOD, directed by Jon M. Chu.
