I’m just going to say it, I loved Zootopia 2, but there’s something you should know.
Let’s start with the good, and then I’ll cover the little bit of bad the movie has. This film has been almost 10 years in the making, and I’m kind of happy that Disney took their time with it. It allows them to tell the story to different generations with characters we love.
I love Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, they might actually be my favourite Disney duo ever. They are so different, and yet they seem to make things work, which is one of the major themes of this movie, and one that I think the world needs more of. We don’t need our differences to separate us.
That’s why I love these movies, they explore very human and, dare I say, adult themes in the simplest ways. And like I always say, the story is the most important part of any movie. This story really moved me, and at the same time it was really entertaining.
There were a few amazing jokes and real world references that I absolutely loved. Unfortunately, the rest of the audience didn’t catch them. For me, this is one of the funniest Disney movies in years, almost on par with the first Zootopia.
That also brings me to the one bad: the movie unfortunately didn’t feel like it was on the same level as its predecessor. And not many sequels top the originals. Fortunately, this movie still has a reason to exist, and it’s worth every minute.
The movie not only takes us back to Zootopia, but it also expands the lore of the world and explores new places and different animals. All of your favourite characters from the first movie are back, although in a smaller capacity. I love the introduction of new characters, especially the reptiles.
The animation is beautiful, and it stands out as one of the best looking animated movies of the year. Disney has had a lot of misses over the last few years, and I’m glad this isn’t one of them. It’s a lot of fun, and though I feel like this movie might be more for adults, the whole family can still enjoy it.
I don’t know why it’s called Zootropolis here, but I’m sticking to Zootopia. So here’s my verdict: Zootopia 2 is a phenomenal film, and you can’t miss it. If you liked the first one like me, then you will definitely love this one as well. It’s funny, it’s wholesome, and it’s an adventure that can transport you to a world that seems like a lot of fun. So just get your tickets and go watch it.
