The smell of freshly popped popcorn once again fills the air of Cavendish Square, now complemented by the aroma of freshly made coffee.
The Nu Metro Cavendish Square projectors officially start rolling today. I was privileged to attend the cinema’s official launch and experience first-hand what film-goers can expect. This cinema is unlike any other I’ve experienced in Cape Town. All I can say is, prepare to feel like a VIP.
The cinema is made for movie lovers and brings a modern yet luxurious feeling. It features seven VIP theatres and a KIDZ Cinema with a lounge where kids can hang out. What really stood out for me is the new Scene Bistro & Bar. It not only offers your usual movie snacks, but also a wide variety of food and drinks, including cocktails or mocktails.
I’ll get back to the food and snacks in a minute. First, I want to talk about the experience. We got to experience the power of the upgraded sound and projectors first-hand, and it blew me away. This, coupled with the reclining seats, tramples any home movie experience, while still offering the comfort of a couch at home.
The KIDZ Cinema also has a dedicated play area, so the kids can play around while you wait for the movie to start. The colourful seats made me wish I could hang out in the cinema and watch a film with my nephews. The cinema is perfect for a family day out, birthday parties, school outings, and everything in between. They also have some delicious menu options for kids.
Back to the Scene Bistro & Bar, it’s there to elevate movie nights. Guests can enjoy a snack or drink before or after their movie, or order something that the friendly staff will bring straight to their seats. The menu includes a wide variety of options. I had my eye on the steak and pizza. The best thing is, you can enjoy all of this even if you skip the movie, but I’d prefer if you didn’t.
