I had really high hopes for this movie, and it didn’t disappoint; in fact, it still managed to blow me away.

I was really excited for Project Hail Mary and I didn’t even read the book; I actually want to start reading it soon. The film won me over with the trailer, and of course, I can’t miss something that features Ryan Gosling. The trailer showcased the stellar visuals, and everyone online talked about how great the story is, which only added to the hype.
Every single good thing you’ve heard about this movie is true, and if someone said something bad, it’s probably just sour grapes. To put it simply, this movie is awesome and a masterclass in storytelling. It’s almost perfect because it hits all the right emotional beats while still being a spectacle.
The performances are outstanding. Ryan Gosling is charming, nerdy, and the perfect lead. His character, Ryland Grace, is likable, funny, and worth rooting for. Rocky, an alien puppeteered and voiced by James Ortiz, is the heart of the film. He isn’t just comic relief but a character with depth and easily one of the best rock creatures out there. Their chemistry turns the movie into a space-adventure buddy comedy. Sandra Hüller is phenomenal as Eva Stratt, carrying the character’s weight brilliantly.
I obviously have to talk about the visuals. The film feels like it transports you lightyears away, which is why it’s best to watch it on the biggest possible screen. Everything feels tangible and real, almost like Interstellar, but better in my opinion. The wide-open shots of space, planets, stars, and the universe are a treat to look at. The scene where Grace performs a spacewalk to collect samples in a Petrova line is breathtaking—probably one of the best movie scenes of the decade.

The movie has a fitting soundtrack that further elevates the story. I really hope people continue to go watch this film. If you don’t, you’re missing out on one of the best movies of the year
