Disney’s highly anticipated live-action reimagining of Moana is heading to cinemas on 10 July 2026, and tickets are officially on sale.
Along with the ticket announcement, Disney has also released a brand-new trailer, giving audiences another look at the film and its fresh take on the beloved animated adventure.
Leading the cast is Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana, stepping into the role of the determined wayfinder who captured audiences in the original film. Dwayne Johnson also returns as the larger-than-life demigod Maui, reprising the role he famously voiced in the animated version.

One of the more exciting additions for longtime fans is the return of Jemaine Clement as Tamatoa, the giant, glitter-loving crab. Clement voiced the character in the original animated film and now brings him back for the live-action adaptation.
The supporting cast includes Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, John Tui as Chief Tui, and Frankie Adams as Sina, creating a strong lineup of Pacific talent across the film.
For those unfamiliar with the story, Moana follows a young wayfinder who answers the Ocean’s call and sets out beyond the reef of Motunui alongside Maui on a journey to restore prosperity to her people. While the original became one of Disney’s most loved modern animated films, this version aims to bring that world to life on a much larger cinematic scale.

The film is directed by Emmy and Tony Award winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton) and features original songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi and Mark Mancina, with Mancina also returning to compose the score.
With Disney leaning heavily into spectacle, music and the world-building fans already know and love, Moana looks set to be one of the bigger family releases of the year.
Moana releases exclusively in cinemas on 10 July 2026.
