Now might be the perfect time to take your family out for a movie night, and you can even do it three times.
Toy Story 5, Supergirl, and Minions & Monsters are currently playing in cinemas, which means you’re spoiled for choice if you want to go to the cinema this week. Out of all three, Toy Story is my favourite, but Minions & Monsters had me laughing from start to finish. Instead of writing a review for each, I’m going to review them all at once.

Minions & Monsters is the latest film in the Despicable Me series and, while it seems like Hollywood just keeps making these movies to make money, this one actually has a reason to exist. It sets itself apart from the other films in the franchise by introducing us to new Minions. These three new leads go on an adventure that takes them back to the early days of Hollywood.
As someone who loves films, this movie pays beautiful homage to silent films and the golden age of Hollywood. There are even a few references to some of the biggest films of all time, and even Star Wars creator George Lucas has a small role. That’s not all. The film is also funny and wholesome, something that everyone in the family can enjoy.

Toy Story 5 was supposed to be the one Pixar movie we didn’t want, but it turns out it’s the movie we needed. I love all the Toy Story movies, and this one reminded me how touching a Pixar film can be when they focus on the story rather than selling nostalgia. It still has a nostalgic feeling, but it also feels modern, and the story fits what’s going on in the real world.
The film is supposed to be about technology versus toys, but it ends up becoming more than just that. It speaks to how all things can find a place in the world and be a helpful tool instead of just a distraction. The fact that they also focus more on Jessie adds a little more nuance to the story. It’s a story of friendship and finding peace. If there’s one animated film that adults should watch, it’s this one.

Supergirl is probably the weakest film of the three, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie. It seems like the movie is struggling to find an audience, but I can vouch for it and say it’s a movie for everyone. It’s a revenge story that sort of turns into a redemption story. In a way, it’s also a story of friendship that leads to becoming family.
The movie has its struggles, especially when it comes to editing and adapting the story it’s based on. It definitely isn’t the best superhero film of the modern era, but it’s still really entertaining and I think it has something unique to say. Milli Alcock is fantastic as Kara Zor-El and Supergirl. Jason Momoa was born to play Lobo, and you can actually see how much he enjoyed stepping into the role. If you like action-packed superhero movies, then you can’t miss this.
There’s a lot to choose from if you decide to have your family movie night at the cinema. All these movies have something special to offer, it just comes down to what you prefer. I would recommend Minions & Monsters for the younger kids and Toy Story 5 for those kids who actually care about the story being told.
