Comic Con Africa Begins In…
It’s almost that time of year again.
Comic Con Africa is returning to the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec from 24 to 27 September 2026, and if you’re anything like me, the excitement is already starting to build. Every year, the event gets bigger, bringing together thousands of fans for four days of gaming, movies, TV shows, cosplay, collectibles, comics and everything in between.
But one thing I’ve learnt after covering Comic Con Africa is that you don’t have to be a “geek” to enjoy it.
Whether you’re an artist looking to showcase your work, a gamer wanting to try out the latest titles, a parent planning a fun day out with the family or someone curious about the creative industries, there’s genuinely something for everyone.

Artist Alley is a Must Visit

One of my favourite parts of the convention is Artist Alley. It’s packed with incredibly talented local artists selling original artwork, prints and commissions, while giving fans the chance to meet the people behind the art. It’s also one of the best places to discover new talent before everyone else does.
Not only can you support local artists by buying their work, but you’ll also find unique pieces you simply won’t see anywhere else. For the artists themselves, Comic Con Africa is an incredible opportunity to meet collectors, network with other creators and introduce their work to thousands of people over the course of the weekend.
More Than Entertainment
Comic Con Africa is also a fantastic place to learn. Throughout the weekend you’ll find panels, workshops and talks covering everything from comic creation and animation to filmmaking, acting, storytelling and even cybersecurity.
Whether you’re hoping to break into the creative industry or simply want to hear from people who have already made it, there’s always something worth sitting down for. It’s one of the reasons Comic Con Africa continues to grow beyond being just a fan convention.

Gaming Takes Centre Stage
Of course, if gaming is more your thing, you’ll feel right at home.
The gaming halls are filled with the latest consoles, PC setups and games to try, while esports tournaments keep the action going throughout the weekend. If you’re thinking about buying new gaming gear, it’s also a great opportunity to experience products before spending your money.
Whether you’re a casual player or someone who follows competitive gaming, there’s always something happening.

Fun for the Whole Family
Families haven’t been forgotten either.

KidsCon returns this year with plenty of activities aimed at younger visitors, including gaming, art workshops, board games, toy displays and character meet-and-greets, making Comic Con Africa a surprisingly good family outing.
It’s one of the biggest reasons Comic Con Africa has become an event that appeals to far more than just comic book fans.
A Place to Connect

The convention is also where creators and businesses come together. Artists, developers, writers and entrepreneurs all use Comic Con Africa to network, launch products and build new partnerships.
Whether it’s an independent artist finding new customers, a game developer showing off their latest project or companies introducing exciting new products, Comic Con Africa has become one of South Africa’s biggest creative networking events.
Follow My Coverage
As always, I’ll be there covering everything happening on the show floor. You can expect interviews, breaking news, photos, videos and plenty of coverage throughout the weekend right here on The Movie Guy and across my social media platforms.
Help Me Cover Comic Con Africa

This year, I’m also asking for a little help from the community.
Covering Comic Con Africa comes with travel, accommodation and content production costs. If you’ve enjoyed my coverage over the years and would like to support what I do, I’ve launched a fundraiser to help make this year’s coverage possible.
Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps me continue bringing you interviews, breaking news, reviews, videos and highlights from one of Africa’s biggest pop culture events.
