The Movie Guy Is Going to Comic Con Africa.

There are some events that I look forward to more than others, and Comic Con Africa tops the list.

After covering Comic Con Cape Town earlier this year, I'm now getting ready to head to Johannesburg for Comic Con Africa from 24 to 27 September. I don't just want to go to Comic Con; I want to bring Comic Con to you.

After covering Comic Con Cape Town earlier this year, I’m now getting ready to head to Johannesburg for Comic Con Africa from 24 to 27 September. I don’t just want to go to Comic Con; I want to bring Comic Con to you.

Over the four days, I want to spend my time doing what I love most: finding the stories, people and moments that will make you feel like you were there with me. That means interviewing celebrities and creators, chatting to cosplayers, testing people’s movie and TV knowledge, looking at all the strange and wonderful things people are selling, checking out the gaming and anime offerings, sitting in on panels and finding out what is happening across the convention floor.

And, of course, there will be plenty of videos, photos, and articles along the way.  I also want to make sure that the people who aren’t able to travel to Johannesburg don’t feel like they are missing out completely. If you can’t be at Comic Con Africa yourself, I want The Movie Guy to be the person who brings some of that experience to you.

I’ve been fortunate enough to receive my press accreditation for the convention, which gives me access to all four days of Comic Con Africa and the facilities available to accredited media. There is one small problem, getting The Movie Guy from Cape Town to Johannesburg is expensive.

There are flights to pay for, somewhere to stay for several nights, transport around Johannesburg, food and all the other little costs that come with spending four days covering a massive event. Then there are the costs involved in actually producing the content once I’m there.

So, I’ve started a support campaign with a goal of raising R10 000 to help make the trip possible. I’m not expecting everyone reading this to contribute. I know that not everyone can, and that’s completely fine. But if you enjoy what I do and would like to help me get to Comic Con Africa, even a small contribution can make a difference.

And if you can’t contribute financially, there are plenty of other ways you can help. Share my posts, follow my accounts, read the articles, watch the videos or simply tell someone about The Movie Guy. Ultimately, this isn’t just about me getting to Johannesburg, it’s about what I can bring back with me.

I want to come home with interviews you actually want to watch, stories you actually want to read, videos that make you laugh, and enough Comic Con content to keep us going long after the convention has packed up and everyone has gone home.

I also want you to have a say in what I cover. I’ve launched my Comic Con Africa 2026 survey, where you can tell me which celebrities and creators you want me to interview, what kind of videos you want to see, which fandoms you’re interested in and even what questions you want me to ask people at Comic Con.

And because I’m asking you to take the time to help me plan my coverage, there is a little something in it for you too. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a giveaway to win two tickets for Friday, 25 September at Comic Con Africa 2026.

Take the Survey!

You don’t have to support the fundraiser to enter. The ticket giveaway is completely separate. So, if you are going to Comic Con Africa, following along from home, or just want to help me decide what I should be looking for in Johannesburg, I’d love to hear from you.

The survey is available now, and you can also find more information about the Comic Con Africa support campaign on my website. Hopefully, with a little help, I’ll see you all from the convention floor in Johannesburg.

And if you can’t be there yourself, I’ll bring some of Comic Con back with me.
