A Sucker for Romance

Have you ever watched a romcom and wished that your love life could play out that way or am I the only one?
I know “men” aren’t supposed to love romantic movies, but I’ve loved them for as long as I remember. Marry Me is another unforgettable romcom and it might just be my favourite in years.
The Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson led movie is a little unconventional and that’s part of its charm. It takes the premise of She’s Out of my League and ups the stakes a little. In the age of social media the stakes are always higher.
The film pairs a world-renowned superstar with an ordinary single father. The unlikely couple first start out as what seems to be a publicity stunt, but things soon begin to change when they become vulnerable with each other.
Lopez basically plays herself, a rich artist who has gone through several divorces and public breakups. The roll is perfect for her and she balances the roll of larger than life figure with a woman who just wants to be loved.
Wilson portrays a single father who happens to be a boring maths teacher. After is life becomes turns into a monotonous cycle, he is encouraged to take more risks. He ends up marrying Lopez’s character on stage on the night that they met.
The movie might be more drama than comedy, but the story is interesting. You keep rooting for the characters and hoping that no one will break them up. It’s all about taking that leap of faith to find love.
Pop superstar Kat Valdez is about to get married before an audience of her loyal fans. However, seconds before the ceremony, she learns about her fiancé’s cheating ways and has a meltdown on stage. In a moment of inspired insanity, Kat locks eyes with a total stranger in the crowd and marries him on the spot. As forces conspire to separate the unlikely newlyweds, they must soon decide if two people from such different worlds can find true love together.

My Verdict
I know romcoms isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I promise this one is worth watching. It mad me believe in love again. So go get your tickets and watch an original non-blockbuster movie with some great acting.

My Rating 7.8 out of 10 – Really Good
