The Game of Perseverance

To find success in life you have to persevere through all the challenges that come your way. You need to stand strong and try your best to push forward.

Hustle is a story of what happens when you work hard and persevere through all the crap that life can throw at you. It’s not just another feel-good sports movie; it’s one that a lot of us can actually relate to. It is a tale of putting in the work but not reaping the fruit you think you deserve.

The Adam Sandler led film is truly remarkable and one of the few dramas that really stick out this year. It has relatable characters who deal with issues many of us deal with, like worthlessness and trauma. It doesn’t just touch on these subjects, it also shows the consequences.

Regardless of all that, it’s still a story of hope. Hope that if you know you gave it your all, things might just work out in the end. Is the movie a masterpiece? No, but it’s the kind of stories we need. It is a story that features real human emotions, and real life drama.

Adam Sandler really shines in his role as basketball scout, Stanley Sugerman. He brings depth to the character and real emotions. This is the kind of acting we want from him and once again he delivered. And the best thingis the movie still has some of his trademark humour.

Juancho Hernangómez was an choice to play Bo Cruz. I almost thought he was a full time actor. I don’t know if he actually relates to the role of Bo Cruz or if it’s just really good acting, because he bring authenticity to the role.

The rest of the cast is made up of mostly people who are involved in the NBA, Queen Latifah, Ben Foster and Robert Duvall. Ben might not have a lot of screen time, but he is a remarkable antagonist and helps you root for the protagonists even more.

The movie is no big budget blockbuster, it’s a movie about real struggles and how you can overcome it if you persevere. So there aren’t any big set-pieces, but you get to see some awesome basketball and tricks from the players.

My Verdict

Hustle is an amazing movie, one that I can see myself watching again. It is not just feel good, it is inspiring. Forget about all the major action movies for a while and just enjoy this beautiful film.

My Rating: 8.5 out of 10 – Love it!
