A New Chapter to the Saga

Hello there. Obi-Wan Kenobi came to an end last week and it left us with a bitter sweet taste.

Right of the bat, I think the show has one of the coolest lightsaber fights in recent memory. It also shows us the Darth Vader before the original trilogy and how he deals with the return of his former master and friend, Kenobi.

The series mostly focuses on the Inquisitor, Third Sister who is hunting down Jedi and this sets her on the path of Obi-Wan. She sees him as the big fish and goes all out to try and lure him out to serve him up toe Darth Vader. This was also one of the biggest critiques of the show.

They kidnap a young Princess Leia and this set off a chain of events that leads to Obi-Wan one returning back to action after hiding out for 10 years. While I initially thought the show might focus on Luke and Obi’s relationship before they officially met in A New Hope, I was pleasantly surprised to get to know young Leia.

In the show Obi-Wan is the old and retired hero who is reluctant to get involved with any force related activities, but eventually accepts that he is our only hope. Along the way he makes some new enemies and meets some new friends.

He also indirectly starts the Rebel Alliance or at least the show hints at it. The story is a little slow paced and we don’t get to see much of the Obi-Wan we remember and there aren’t any space battles, but that final lightsaber battle was a delight.

Obi-Wan Kenobi might not be the best Star Wars show, but it’s certainly worth watching. You get to see a different side of the galaxy far far away and it’s a blessing to Ewan back as one of our favourite Jedi Masters.

The story might not be what I expected but some of the visuals are once again awesome. The show is nowhere near as good as The Mandalorian but it’s still a decent Star Wars story, better than most of the sequels.

The Jedi Master contends with the consequences of his greatest defeat — the downfall and corruption of his one-time friend and apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

My Verdict

Like I said, it’s not the best Star Wars product, but it’s still fun to watch. I’ve always been a fan of Obi-Wan and Darth Vader and it was great to see them take on each other. It’s obvious that Darth Vader hasn’t reached his full potential yet and I really hope he does. I also can’t wait to see where Obi-Wan ventures to next. So the show is definitely worth watching if you’re a fan of the franchise.

My Rating: 6.9 out of 10 – Good
