Season 4 of Stranger Things came to an end over the weekend and it blew my mind in more ways than one.
I was excited to see how the story would progress after the release of volume one and I can say volume two did not disappoint. The Duffer Brothers once again proved why their show is pop culture phenomenon.
I have to be honest, for a second I thought they couldn’t top season three, and I’m glad they didn’t. Hear me out, both seasons are equally good – there, I said it. It cemented Stranger Things as one of the best TV shows of the last decade. The connection between the two seasons also created higher stakes and it made the story a lot more intriguing.
Since I already did a review for volume one, I’m going to focus more on the last two episodes. Volume two starts off a little slow with most of the characters still trying to figure out what they should do next. Nancy is still trapped in Vecna’s mind and sees who he really is.
After she wakes up, the team in Hawkins comes up with a plan to stop Vecna, while Eleven and the others try to protect them from across the country. Back in Russia Hopper and the rest realise that the kids might also need their help and this sends them back to the prison they just broke out of.
The last two episodes run for almost four hours, but if you are a fan of the show then you won’t even realise it. The episodes do feel a little overstuffed, but don’t worry every small detail has a reason. The character development is once again what you expect from the show, ultimate redemption.
New character, Eddie Munson steals the show with an epic metal guitar performance in the Upside Down. He quickly became a fan favourite and the last episodes boosts this status even more. The other characters are once again excellent. You get to see raw emotions throughout the episodes.
The characters are grounded even though the story takes place in this horror fantasy world. I really have no complaints about the season. Yes, some episodes didn’t have to be so long, but The Duffer Brothers had a lot of ground to cover and I think they did it in an exceptional way.
The visuals are stunning and I salute them for using practical effects and makeup to bring Vecna to life. The cliffhanger was also expected, since the next season is said to be the last. I can’t wait to see how the series closes out, and I guess we’ll only get there in a few years.
My Verdict
I’m biased when it comes to Stranger Things, it’s been one of my favourite shows since the start and once again they knocked it out of the park. This season was almost perfect and is worth re-watching. It’s definitely one of the best TV shows on any streaming service or channel. It is a must watch and I will recommend it to literally everyone. Start streaming Stranger Things 4 as soon as possible.
My Rating: 9.8 out of – Almost Perfect
