The San Diego Comic-Con took place this weekend and while I wasn’t in attendance, I still tried to keep up with what was going on.
I’m only going to highlight some of the major announcements and peek at some smaller announcements. Marvel Studios probably stole the show with a bunch of new trailers that dropped and some teases for upcoming projects.
DC and Warner on the other hand focused on two upcoming movies, Shazam: Fury of the Gods and Black Adam. And since these two characters are enemies in the comics I get why they chose to focus on them and not other upcoming movies.
Hopefully one of these movies will tease a fight between Black Adam and Shazam. There were also rumours that Henry Cavill would be part of the DC panel, but these rumours were proved to be false. Hopefully he does return as Superman someday. Thankfully The Rock showed up in full costume as Black Adam.
I’ll look at the Marvel announcements last. For all the wrestling fans, some AEW talent were present at Comic-Con, including CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Orange Cassidy, Dr Britt Baker, DMD and a few others. WWE Legend, the Undertaker also took part in a panel.
Nickelodeon had one of the first panels and they announced new Rugrats and SpongeBob shows. Some TV shows that presented at the con were The Rookie, What We Do in the Shadows, and the new National Treasure show. Comic Con legend, William Shatner was also in attendance.
We also got a look at the new D&D movie called Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The trailer was released and it stars Chris Pine. There was also a panel on the Comic-Con Museum and it included a look at the all new Marvel’s Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing exhibit. Other exhibitions were also discussed.
George R. R. Martin and the showrunners of the Game of Thrones spinoff, House of Dragon also came to share more details on the new show. Star Trek fans also got to see what the future of the franchise has in store for them.
The biggest panels were from Marvel Studios. On Friday they took a dive into their upcoming animated shows What If season 2, Marvel’s Zombies, X-Men 97, I am Groot and Spider-Man: Freshman year. They also teased a return for Daredevil in a mostly black suit.
On Saturday Marvel Studios kicked it up a notch. They announced 11 projects for their upcoming Phase 5. It’ll will kick off with Ant-Man: Quantumania in February next year and end with Captain America: New World Order in May 2024 and the Thunderbolts.
The projects they announced also included Secret Invasion, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, Echo, Loki season 2, The Marvels, Blade, Ironheart, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again. They also mentioned that this will all be part of the Multiverse Saga.
The Saga will end with phase six which will also include 11 projects. Including Fantastic 4, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. During their panel Marvel Studios also released a new She-Hulk trailer and teased the return of Daredevil in his iconic yellow and red suit.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was also presented and trailer was shown at the event and later released online. I will talk about the last part of MCU phase 4 later this week.
Some much happened over the weekend and I really tried to touch on most of it. I will be sharing more content on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube over the next few days. Also please contact me if you would like to sponsor my trip to Comic Con Africa in September.
