We all love a good action hero and Netflix gave us a couple of new ones over the weekend.
The Grey Man is awesome, to put it simply. The movie is filled with great action sequences, funny moments, lots of explosions and a half-decent plot. In a movie market that’s oversaturated with superheroes and horror movies – this is a much needed change of pace.
Sure, most action heroes are almost superheroes but this feels different. It feels like something from the 90s or early 2000s. There’s the villain who’s a complete as*hole and the cool hero we all admire or want to be – plus he gets help from a badass female colleague.
The movie is simple, bad guy wants to kill good guy and good guy has something valuable to protect. It doesn’t need any deep storytelling and I love that. You can just sit back, relax and enjoy all the action and funny scenes.
The movie has some great action set-pieces and great hand-to-hand combat scenes. The casting was also on point, with Ryan Gosling playing the laid-back cool movie hero that we all want to be like and Chris Evans plays the psychotic bad guy.
Ana de Armas stars as the one who has to keep saving Gosling’s life and I love that. She’s really the breakout character. Apart from the characters the movie is awesome and I enjoy the action thriller genre.
The Grey Man has some pacing issues and it’s definitely not the perfect movie, but that’s not important as long as you enjoy it. It’s something I can re-watch because the Russo brothers once again delivered something good.
When the CIA’s top asset — his identity known to no one — uncovers agency secrets, he triggers a global hunt by assassins set loose by his ex-colleague.
The Verdict
The movie is awesome, but that’s just my opinion. It has rewatch value and that’s usually one of the most important things to me. It’s not the best action movie, but it’s one of the coolest in a while, so I definitely suggest you check it out.
