Predators become Prey

I always thought the Predators franchise ended with the 2018 film, but Prey reminded me just awesome these movies can be.

Prey changes the setting of the hunter and puts it in a century where humanity is still fragile – which opens the door for some amazing storytelling. The movie takes place in the late 1700s where a Comanche tribe has to defend themselves against the arrival of European forces and something extra-terrestrial.

Just the premise sounds remarkable, right? I don’t have to say much about this movie, just go watch it! It’s definitely one of the best action movies of the year an  I can’t believe it wasn’t released in theatres (where it belongs).

The film is led by Naru played by Amber Midthunder, a young Comanche warrior who wants to be a hunter. Her adventures bring her face to face with a Yautja. And this warrior doesn’t back down, just as you’d expect.

This movie has some amazing fight scenes. And since there aren’t a lot of guns involved you actually see some well-choreographed hand-to-hand combat scenes. A lot of axe throws and hard blows that end up weakening a freakin’ Predator.

Director Dan Trachtenberg gives us the best Predator movie in years. I might even say it’s as good as the original or even better. The movie is simply an action movie, no stupid side stories. It focuses on what you want and it delivers massively. Also I loved the scenery, forests are awesome.

My Verdict

This movie is freakin’ badass and I’m in love with it. It could’ve had a longer runtime, but I’m not complaining. I can watch it over and over again. Do yourself a favour and go watch Prey, it will be the best ‘treat yo’self’ moment of 2022, as long as you also have the right snacks.

My Rating: 10 out of 10 – Masterpiece (It totally deserves it, my second favourite movie of the year)
