In a little over a month I will be making my way to Johannesburg to attend Comic Con Africa and I’m excited to work at Africa’s largest pop culture event.
I’ve been invited to be the sole Namibian media representative at the convention and I have to say it is quite an honour. I was invited to attend the event in 2020 but due to the pandemic everything was put on ice.
The organisers also had to limit the number the media in attendance at this year’s event, due to certain COVID-restrictions that were, and are still in place. I am one of the lucky few who will get to cover the event through my social media platforms, as well as doing write ups for Namibian media houses.
Comic Con Africa will take place at the Johannesburg stadium from 22 to 25 September. Due to the late invite I haven’t been able to do proper fundraising to cover my expenses for the trip to Johannesburg. I will need at least N$15 000 to cover my most basic expenses.
If you are able to support me in any way then it will be greatly appreciated. I know it’s a lot to ask, especially during the current financial climate but I believe the event will be worth it. I have reached out to people for help and I haven’t received any feedback. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.
Any kind of sponsorship is welcome, regardless of the amount or type. Even just forwarding this article to your family or friends can open possible doors for me. I am a freelance journalist and most of my income comes from donations. I’m doing the work because I’m passionate about it and not for the money.
I will also be running a competition from 15 August to 15 September for further fundraising. There are some awesome prizes that you can win if you participate. If you are able to support me in any way then please send an email to themovieguy.nam@gmail.com or click here to fill out a sponsor form. You can also reach me on social media.
Thank you in advance for your support.
