I love comedy and nothing makes me laugh like a good sitcom or dramedy. Let’s take a look at some of the best new comedy shows of the year.
10. Reboot
Reboot stars Keegan-Michael Key and Johnny Knoxville as actors who are brought back to reboot a classic sitcom. This isn’t just a simple work place comedy as it mixes the new school with the old school. It’s completely self-aware and that’s what makes it unique.
9. How I Met You Father
I get that there a lot of people who aren’t fans of this show, but I find it comforting. Maybe it’s because I’m a huge How I Met Your Mother fan and this show just felt nostalgic. Either way, I loved it and it definitely laugh out loud funny.
8. This Fool
This is one of the most out-of-the-box comedies, and it shows off some Mexican-American culture. It’s a unique show as it takes unlikeable characters and makes them the protagonists. It is genuinely funny and fun to watch.
7. Killing It
Craig Robinson stars as a down on his luck dad, but then he’s introduced to the world of python hunting. This show centres around two people just trying to secure their futures in a very odd way. The characters are weird and the story is amazing. I didn’t even think I’d love this much.
6. Abbott Elementary
This is the most surprising show of the year; it has no reason being this good. Quinta Brunson had a dream and she went above and beyond to give us one of the best work place comedies. Public school teachers from across the world can relate to this show and the comedy is something reminiscent of The Office or Parks and Recreation.
5. Sprung
This show went under the radar, but believe me it’s so good. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve watched in a long time. It puts a new spin on the pandemic and it gives you a few Robin Hood-like characters. The show centres around 3 convicts who have to adjust to the new world after getting released due to the pandemic.
4. The After Party
If you want comedy with a little mystery, than this is the show for you. It’s a simple murder mystery with some modern undertones. It has relatable characters and some over the top characters and that combination leads to comedic gold.
3. Our Flag Means Death
Thor: Love and Thunder might not have been the hit we were hoping for, but this show proves that Taika Waititi still has it. It’s a spin on a pirate story, and never have I loved pirates more than this (except Jack Sparrow). It’s semi-biographical which makes it so much funnier.
2. Peacemaker
The best new superhero show of the year comes from the mind of new DC Studios co-CEO, James Gunn. This show is evident that Gunn loves comic book characters, because he can turn any obscure character into a household name. This isn’t just a good superhero show, but also one of the funniest shows I’ve ever watched.
1. The Bear
It can be argued that The Bear is more of a drama than a comedy, but either way it is one of the best shows of the year. I’ve talked about it so much and I won’t stop now. This show has really funny moments and some really deep dramatic moments. And it all works because of the excellent acting and writing. If you want a recommendation for one show to watch for the last part of 2022, then this will be it.
