Comic Con Africa has come and gone, and it was an amazing experience – one that will last a lifetime.
I have a new core memory and it all consists of my time at Africa’s biggest pop culture event. I felt like a kid again when I got to see some of my favourite heroes walk casually around as they took pictures with fans. I went crazy when I got to walk through Hawkins, Indiana and the Upside Down during the Stranger Things Experience.
I’m still a little awestruck from seeing Jamie Campbell Bower and Ross Butler interact with fans and talk about their lives. The cosplayers once again went out of their way to represent their favourite characters and I have to say almost every single one impressed me. It makes me want to go into cosplaying.
I can’t forget all the amazing stalls that made the convention extra special. Each one had a unique spin on some of our favourite fandoms. If I could then I would’ve bought every single comic book and collectable I came across.
There was also so much food to choose from. The KFC Kentucky Town impressed me the most; I wish I could try some of it again. Overall the main convention was a blast and I felt at home. I haven’t spent time around thousands of people in years and yet I didn’t feel overwhelmed.
The Kids Con was just as amazing, although it somehow felt a little empty. The good news is I got to hang out with Mario and Luigi. I thought about rollerskating, but I didn’t want to fall again. There were so many things for the kids to do; I almost wished I was younger.
The other main thing I was looking forward to was Streamer Con. I sit through so many panels so I could learn how to improve my content, hopefully I can implement some of the lessons I’ve learned. It was awesome to see people like me doing so many extraordinary things with their content.
I got to see some amazing gamers in action, there were so many games I could take part in. There’s just so much I want to talk about, but I’ll break it down over the next couple of weeks. All I can say is, I’m impressed to see how Africans are changing the way we share, create and enjoy content.
Finally there was the Street Con. I wish I could’ve experienced more of it. I did get to see some wonderful artists show off their work. The live graffiti was just as awesome. All-in-all, Comic Con Africa was simply great. I could relive it over and over again. I can’t wait for my next Con. Check out my gallery below with all of my favourite memories.
