A Different Kind of Time Travel

Time travel has always played a big role in science fiction stories. It played an important part in movies like The Time Machine, Avengers: Endgame and we can’t forget the Back to the Future.

When I think about it some of my favourite movies contained some sort of time travelling element and The Adam Project is definitely one of the best movies of 2022 so far. Ryan Reynolds once again shines, but newcomer Walker Scobell steals the show.

Set in the present, the past and the not-so-distant future, the movie explores themes of corruption, father-son relationships, growth and probably puberty. Obviously the main theme is time travel but there’s so much more to the story.

Reynolds is again his charming self, and this time he’s not trying to be overly funny. Scobell fits perfectly as a young Reynolds. It’s like Ryan actually travelled back in time to fetch his younger self so he could star in the movie with the older Reynolds.

The supporting cast isn’t bad either. Zoe Saldaña stars as the wife of Reynolds’ character and is a total badass. She really knows how to shine in an action scene. Apart from her, Mark Ruffalo stars as a quirky scientist, who also happens to be the dad of the protagonist.

I don’t want to share spoilers, so my review is pretty basic. The movie is an improvement over most Netflix movies and it’s good enough to be a blockbuster. It’s funny, impactful, filled with action and just fun. I appreciate director, Shawn Levy’s direction and the plot isn’t unnecessarily drawn out. It’s also visually stunning, I would’ve loved to see it on a 4K TV..

If your not in the mood to go to the cinema to see The Batman or Uncharted then just turn on your TV, go to Netflix and enjoy this awesome sci-fi flick. I think it’s family friendly.. There might be one intense kissing scene, but nothing explicit.

After accidentally crash-landing in 2022, time-traveling fighter pilot Adam Reed teams up with his 12-year-old self for a mission to save the future.

My Verdict

The Adam Project might not be the best movie you can watch this week, but maybe it’ll take you on a fun trip across time. It’s definitely worth checking out and you don’t even have to leave your house to watch it.

My Rating: 7 out of 10 – Good
