A Lot Going On

It’s been a busy few weeks for movies and TV. A lot of shows have come back for new seasons, and a few great movies have made their cinema debuts. I didn’t get the chance to review everything, but now is as good a time as any to do that.

I couldn’t come up with a single review to write this week, so I decided to write a few reviews at once.

It’s been a busy few weeks for movies and TV. A lot of shows have come back for new seasons, and a few great movies have made their cinema debuts. I didn’t get the chance to review everything, but now is as good a time as any to do that. August has been filled with some amazing films, so let’s start with the latest one, The End of Oak Street.

I was really excited to go watch The End of Oak Street, and I can happily say I wasn’t disappointed. In fact, it might have been better than I hoped. I don’t want to spoil the film for anyone, but it basically follows a family whose whole neighbourhood somehow gets transported back in time to when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth. They have to try to stay alive while they figure out how to get back home.

It’s an original story that was clearly influenced by movies from the 1980s and 1990s. The film doesn’t shy away from taking risks, and it’s packed full of action. The dinosaurs look beautiful, and they are actually scary. The story does take a while to get started, but once the dinosaurs show up, the story doesn’t slow down. It’s an easy 4 out of 5 stars for me.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Ted Lasso also made its long-awaited return with a fourth season on Apple TV, and I actually think it was worth the wait. It’s not off to the best start, but after two episodes, I’m just glad the show is back. It does feel like something is missing, but I’m happy that most of the original cast is back.

I think this season serves more as a soft reboot and that, after the next two episodes, things will start to fall into place. The humour is still there, and the show still feels wholesome. I do love the new cast, and I can’t wait to see what they have to offer. I think focusing on the women’s team is a risk that will pay off. I just hope we get a few cameos from the men’s team as well. The new season is a 3 and a half out of 5 stars for me.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Reacher is also back for a fourth season on Prime Video, and I think it’s the best season since the first. Don’t get me wrong, this show has no bad seasons, but this season had me hooked from the first minute. I think this season’s story is very relevant to how things are in real life. Jack Reacher basically represents the hero we all wish we could be.

Alan Ritchson is once again phenomenal as Reacher, and this season’s supporting cast is equally as strong. The action is great, even better than I hoped, and it makes for great entertainment. Sometimes you need a show that’s just simple fun, and this is it. It’s not just a distraction, but also worth watching. It’s an easy 4 and a half out of 5 stars. I can’t stop recommending this show.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Also in cinemas now is Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie, which I didn’t watch, but I assume it will be great for families. Coming out this Friday is the new Jason Statham movie, which I’m really looking forward to because, even though I know what to expect from his movies, they are still a lot of fun.
