A Realm of Nightmares and Dreams

After a long wait Netflix finally dropped The Sandman last week and I have to say it’s an exciting TV show.

I think Neil Gaiman being part of the team that adapted the comic for TV is a huge plus, since it keeps the tone of the story. This is very important in all good adaptations, especially when the source material is believed to be ‘unfilmable’.

There are some changes that fans might not be happy with, especially if it might affect their favourite characters. I’m not bothered by this much, since all I want is good story with amazing characters and that’s exactly what I got.

Netflix has been missing the target with a lot of their adaptations lately. So it’s a blessing to actually find a show with some real substance and not just some writer trying to push their political agenda. The show is a gem, even if many might not agree with me.

It’s visually stunning, I loved the battle in hell and the way the dream realm was portrayed. The story seems like it’s dragging its feet in the first few episodes, but I guess they were going for a big setup. It paid off and I’m happy about that.

Tom Sturridge is amazing as Dream; he gives off some real emo kid vibes. You understand his motivations and it’s just well written character. Now Boyd Holbrook is hands down one of my favourite actors. I loved him in Narcos and Logan. Once again his performance is magnificent as the Corinthian.

The rest of the cast does an exceptional job, safe for one or two. I’m not going to jump into all of that. I respect the show’s crew for actually making this show and I know season two will be awesome. One more thing, the show almost gives off Doom Patrol vibes, but without all the absurdity.

My Review

Netflix once again has another hit and it’s good enough to give some other fantasy shows a run for their money. If you like dark, gritty, fantasy thrillers than you will love this show. It makes you hate some characters, while you might actually cheer for some villains. The show is worth binging and I know I will definitely rewatch it someday.

My Verdict: 8.1 out of 10 – Love it!
