A Son’s Hero

A lot of boys look at their dads and see a hero, well Charlie is lucky enough to see his dad as a real superhero.

Secret Headquarters is a fun, action-packed family movie. It has a few wholesome and funny moments, and that kind of makes up for the lack of good CGI in the movie. The young actors are amazing in their roles” unfortunately Owen Wilson and Michael Peña don’t get enough time to shine.

The movie really is a good family affair, something that my nephew and I can watch together someday. Unfortunately it won’t appeal to most adults, but I guess that’s not really so bad (we have The Boys to keep us entertained).

I have to say the movie’s young cast really delivers some great performance. The cast is led by Walker Scobell, who also stared in The Adam Project earlier this year. The few moments we spent with Wilson and Peña is also really fun.

The movie does however feel like Disney Channel or Nickelodeon movie on steroids, just a little bit of steroids. It’s predictable but still entertaining and funny enough. And the CGI feels like it belongs in on CW superhero TV show, which isn’t too bad.

There are few cool action sequences that makes up for the poor visuals. The movie focuses more on characters than the action hero side of things. It’s like an Iron Man movie at a discounted price, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

My Verdict

Secret Society might not fall under the blockbuster superhero movie banner, but it’s still entertaining enough. Just don’t have high expectations, it is a children’s movie after all. Just enjoy it for it what is, maybe the kids will be crazy about it.

My Rating: 6.2 out of 10 – Good
