Argylle – Review

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Do you want to get nuts? Let’s get nuts or at least super weird with Henry Cavill.

I don’t get why people didn’t like this movie, I had a lot of fun with it. That being said, I’ve been known to like weird stuff, and Matthew Vaughn likes to get weird. So saying I was just entertained is an understatement.

The movie starts off as your typically spy thriller mixed with some Fast and Furious over-the-top action, and it does help that John Cena is also in it. And just when you think it’s a little over the top, the actual weirdness hits you. The movie you’re watching isn’t really what you thought you were watching?

Confused yet? That’s exactly how Bryce Dallas Howard’s Elly feels when she meets Sam Rockwell’s Aiden. And things only get weirder from there. The movie is thrill ride from the start to the end with some great action set-pieces throughout. It’ll have you laughing out loud at times.

There are a few predictable twists and others you’d never see coming. Speaking of Bryce and Sam, they are such an amazing pair. The chemistry is odd, which adds to to the film’s overall tone. Now you might say it’s tonally all over the place, but that’s the point… It’s supposed to keep you guessing.

So stop complaining about the movie not being an Oscar contender and just go to the theater to have some fun for once. Back to the movie, in the first act there’s this really funny and awesome dance and fight scene. The choreography was brilliant.

I only have three complaints, not enough Henry Cavill; the movie is a little too long and the awful haircut they gave our Superman. Other than that, Argylle is fantastic. Is it going to be my favourite movie of 2024? No, but at least I had fun at the cinema.

To sum it all up, the movie is like’s Kingsman, but on LSD. It has bright colours and everything. I can’t wait to rewatch it soon. Also, I really hope that mid-credits scene goes somewhere, I would hate for it to be wasted. I just know how they’re going to handle the Samuel L. Jackson dilemma.
