Chapter 2: Stand By Me

I’m grateful for my new journey, but to be completely honest… it has been really challenging. The last week has been filled with some new core memories and some memories that I just want to forget.

I’m grateful for my new journey, but to be completely honest… it has been really challenging.

The last week has been filled with some new core memories and some memories that I just want to forget. Journaling this new part of my life definitely helps me be in the moment more often then I used to be. I can feel and experience things I used to think weren’t important enough.

Before I get started with the second chapter, please scroll down to see how you can support me and how you can get involved.

Chapter 2, it’s funny to think that I’ve been calling myself a writer for almost two decades now, but it feels like my writing journey just started. I’ve written two poetry bundles and a bunch of cookbooks, but for the first time ever I feel like there is authenticity to my writing. I’ve always written about things I love or experienced, but now I’m writing from passion.

My new home and “work schedule” really allows me to delve into the stories I love. Last week I attended two movie premieres and both films really spoke to me. It’s like the movies reminded me of where I came from and where I’m going.

My first ever press screening took me to the legendary Labia Theatre in the heart of Cape Town and it was only fitting that the first movie I got to watch was Bob Marley: One Love. Marley is an artist that I’ve been listening to since before I could speak.

My second press screening took place at the V&A Waterfront and it was for Frankie en Felipé. An Afrikaans film that kind of feels like my own story. Both these movies really kept me grounded in my new journey. (Read my reviews for Bob Marley One Love and Frankie en Felipé)

I really had the opportunity to see movies for more than just their entertainment value. And that allowed me to understand that there’s more to me than just a guy who wants to make it in the writing world. I might not be the next big author, but I want to at least inspire or motivate one person.

Journaling my journey on an open platform is suppose to help me be true to myself. I’m creating a space where I can be honest and true to myself and the world. I don’t talk much, but when I write the world just opens in ways I can’t explain.

It’s been a hard and mostly painful decade for me… I’m still struggling with a lot and I’m not going to hide behind a fake smile or doctored pictures. I am going to be my authentic self and let everyone know that it is okay if you breakdown and feel like giving up.

I’ve given up before, but by the grace of God I somehow got back up again and I’m trying something new. I also know that while I’m on this journey alone, I need to make pit stops to rest and that’s where everyone else comes in.

I can’t do any of this alone and I’m constantly reminded of that. I might be building my dream life, but that dream doesn’t only include me. And once again, if you can support then please do. I need all the likes, comments, subscribers and followers I can get. Being in Cape Town also isn’t cheap, so if you want to make a donation then please contact me or find my banking details below.
