Cloud 9 will finally open it’s doors in Mzanzi on Zulu-language remake of Superstore. The show will go into production later this year. The show will produced by Barkers Media in association with Universal International Studios.

This marks South Africa’s second sitcom adaptation after Showmax also announced an Afrikaans version of The Office will go into production this year. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of Superstore debut.

Nicola van Niekerk, executive head of programming at MultiChoice said that she laughed her way through each episode of Superstore and that they are on Cloud 9 that a South African version of the show gets to be made.

“I can’t wait to see how funny and lovable characters are reimagined in our complex country,” she said.

“I cannot wait to see Superstore take on a whole new life in South Africa!” says Hannah Mabruk, VP, Format Sales for NBCUniversal Formats. “It’s a format that resonates with audiences around the world because of its undeniable humour, heart, and universal themes of community and friendship flourishing in the workplace.

Originally created and showrun by Justin Spitzer (The Office) and produced by Universal Television, in association with Spitzer Holding Company, Miller Green Broadcasting and The District for NBC, Superstore follows a unique family of employees at Cloud 9, a super-sized mega store.
