I have been a fan of vampire movies since I watched Dracula in the 90s and then along came Blade and I become a fan of vampire hunters.
Warning, Day Shift isn’t for sensitive viewers. Don’t go in expecting Twilight’s shiny vampires. Day Shift is a fun ride into the crazy and adventurous lives of vampire hunters. It doesn’t take itself too serious and that’s why it’s one of my favourite action comedies of the year.
I know, one of the best is far-fetched, but I really loved the movie. I might be bias since I’m a Jamie Foxx fan, but the dude makes the movie awesome. Dave Franco is another great part of the movie, the nerd who gets thrown onto the battlefield.
And then there’s Snoop Dogg, who’s basically a tall black Chuck Norris, I freaking love that. The cast is awesome, but Snoop really needed to work more with his fight choreographer, his moves are a little slow. Thank goodness for stunt performers.
The movie also has some of the best action sequences of the year. The creative ways the team kills vampires are just on fire. I never knew Jamie Foxx could pull of all those moves, because the fight choreography is simply next level.
I have to say the visual are also awesome and it seems like the crew went for more practical effects rather than CG, which is a huge plus. The plot of the movie is fun, though predictable. It’s one of those movies that don’t really focus on the story, but the hype of the action and comedy.
I didn’t have high expectations for the movie since Netflix didn’t really market it that much, but I’m so impressed. I had fun from the start till the end and that’s exactly what I expect from an action comedy. The movie also has franchise potential so hopefully there’s a sequel in the works – it does seem like they’re setting up one.
My Verdict
Day Shift is fun and that’s it. It’s a popcorn movie with a lot of hardcore action and some cool jokes. It definitely has re-watch value. I will definitely recommend this movie to everyone – accept for our ‘sensitive viewers’. August has been a good month for streaming services and this movie is another hit.
My Rating: 7.2 out of 10 – Good
