Hello there, Barry here.
You might know me as The Movie Guy – a writer, content creator, kinda-amateur filmmaker, and cool kid.
I’ve been sharing this awesome journey with all of you for about 3-years now (10 years if you’ve been around since my newspaper days). If you know me then you know I love stories. I’ve been telling stories through words, short films, poetry and videos for several years now. Yes, I’ve written books, made short films, and shared content that I hope will connect people and share a little hope. I think of myself as a Clark Kent without the alter-ego and good looks.
Right now, I’m at a standstill and I need your help. My current laptop, my most important tool can no longer carry the load of everything I do. It just can’t keep up. It crashes, lags, and limits the kind of work I can do. Editing videos, writing columns, creating content, and creating stories. Without a functional laptop, I simply can’t keep going at the pace I need to. I have a few major events coming up, and I need something that will help me deliver the best possible work.
I’m raising funds to buy a reliable laptop that will allow me to:
- Edit videos for YouTube and social media
- Write my books, columns, and newsletters
- Work on future short films
- Keep building a platform for storytelling and collaboration
- Grow as a creator who proudly represents Namibia and South Africa
What I’ve Done So Far
Despite limited resources, I’ve:
- Written and published multiple cookbooks and poetry bundles.
- Made two short films.
- Grown a YouTube channel with reviews, interviews, and personal stories
- Shared my passion for movies and pop culture through journalism, blog writing, and radio
- Built a voice that champions creativity, culture, and pop culture.
Everything I’ve achieved has been with borrowed time and struggling equipment, but now, I want to push further and do more. A good laptop is the next step.
How You Can Help
Any amount helps and brings me closer to continuing this journey. If you can’t donate, please share this story with someone who might.
In return, I’ll keep creating. I’ll keep telling stories. And I’ll make sure your support becomes part of something meaningful — because every name, every donation, every bit of help means the world to me.
