It turns out the MCU isn’t dead like most people claim, it’s alive and thriving.
I mean, sure most of their recent projects weren’t hits (I’m looking at you Thor: Love and Thunder), but that’s okay. Werewolf by Night makes up for everything. It wasn’t the special presentation I expected, because it exceeded all my expectations.
I’m not a fan of black and white cinema, but it perfectly fit the narrative of the special. There was just something special about it. The practical effects also created this sense of realism, even though there’s a literal werewolf and swamp monster.
Story wise, I wanted more. Those 53 minutes went by so fast, even if the special covered everything. I need more of the Ted, Man-Thing, and Jack Russell, Werewolf relationship. Those are actual friendship goals.
Overall the special was nearly perfect and the best thing to come from Marvel Studios this year. It’s definitely one of my favourite MCU projects, up there with most of the Avengers and Captain America movies. I recommend this special to all old horror lovers and MCU fans.
My Verdict
Werewolf by Night shows us an unexplored side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it is wonderful. It’s not an over-the-top action piece, but a story with heart, drama, humour and suspense. It’s everything that a Halloween story should be. And it might also be the most violent Marvel project ever. Go check it out on Disney Plus.
My Rating: 9.5 – Almost Perfect!
