Is it a Slam Dunk?

LeBron James once again steps into the shoes of the legend, Michael Jordan but this time he followed him to a looney bin.

After years of promises Space Jam: A New Legacy finally hit the world’s cinemas this past weekend, but is it worth it? As a kids movie, then yeah but adults might not find it as entertaining as the youngsters.

The film is fun and features a bunch of easter eggs that will make you yell Nostalgia! It’s really cool when you get to see the Justice League, Pennywise, King Kong, the Iron Giant and so many other Warner Bros characters interacting with the Looney Tunes.

The nostalgia is fun until you realise that Ready Player One did it a few years ago. At some point it just feels like the studio is trying too hard to promote itself. Enough of that, the movie is fun and enjoyable.

I’ve always been a fan of the Looney Tunes and I loved the original Space Jam movie, so it was great to sit through another one. A lot of the characters just reminds us of why we loved them in the first place.

It reminded me of Saturday morning cartoons and how much fun a carefree life used to be. Story-wise, the film is okay-ish but a little predictable once you start understating the whole serververse business.

I loved the shots and call backs to movies like the Matrix and also that ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ reference. All-in-all it’s fun family movie, both my dad and nephew loved it. They literally couldn’t take their eyes off of it.

Superstar LeBron James and his young son, Dom, get trapped in digital space by a rogue AI. To get home safely, LeBron teams up with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang for a high-stakes basketball game against the AI’s digitized champions of the court — a powered-up roster called the Goon Squad.

My Verdict

The movie is fun while it lacks the original films charm and humour it still brings the characters alive for a newer generation. It might not be perfect, but it is entertain and that’s what’s important. We need a little entertainment to distract us from the bad things going on around this. So go give Space Jam: A New Legacy a shot, it might be the slam dunk you want it to be.

My Rating: 5.1 out of 10 – Could Have Been Better
