It’s been a while

I haven’t written a personal column in a really long time, and I guess I’ve been avoiding it.

I haven’t written a personal column in a really long time, and I guess I’ve been avoiding it.

I’m not sure if it was on purpose or simply because I was waiting to have something to say. The truth is, I do have a lot to say, so please bear with me. I’m just glad I get to share the next phase of my Movie Guy journey with you.

The last few months have been nothing short of awesome. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I’ve reached a point where I can genuinely be proud of the work I’ve been doing. Looking back at the past three months, I’ve hit so many of my career goals and yet, it still feels like I’m just getting started.

If you’ve been following my journey on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, or even in the Republikein, you’ll know how excited I was to attend Comic Con Africa this year. I’ve already shared what that experience meant to me and how grateful I am to everyone who helped make it possible. By now, you’ve probably also seen my interview with Misha Collins. (If you haven’t, go check it out on YouTube.)

In more than 11 years of working in the media, that interview has been the highlight of it all. I’ve been dreaming about a moment like that since I was a kid. Not only did I get to talk to someone whose work I admire, but I did it on my own terms. I wasn’t just some kid from Namibia anymore.

To some people, it might not seem like a big deal, but to me, it was a dream come true. It made me believe that everything else I’ve dreamt of can also become a reality. That’s been my focus these last few weeks: chasing the rest of those dreams, no matter how long it takes.

At the start of this year, I set myself some goals in the form of a Bingo card, which I pinned to my social media pages. This was so that it’s not just some New Year’s resolution, but something I can continuously go back to.

Some of those goals are big and might take years, while others I ticked off in just a few days. Interviewing a celebrity was one of them, and I did it. Writing a full screenplay was another, and that’s something I’m still figuring out. Writing more short stories, though – that’s the one I’ve been spending the most time on recently.

I’ve always wanted to write stories, and I think I’ve finally found the ones I want to tell. They’re stories people can relate to, told through themes and genres that I love. The only thing I’m struggling with is naming the characters. So, if you’d like to be a character in one of my stories, send me an email or leave a comment – I might just borrow your name.

Another surprise this year has been realizing that I actually enjoy horror movies. That’s probably why most of the stories I’m working on lean toward horror or thriller. The rest are comedies, with a few focused on superheroes. The first character-driven story I’m writing is called The Preacher. I won’t share too much yet, because I don’t want to create unnecessary expectations.

I’m also working on something completely separate from my screenplays and short stories and this one’s focused on the world of pro wrestling. When I was younger, I actually wanted to be a wrestler, but don’t worry, this project has nothing to do with me stepping into the ring. Hopefully I’ll be able to share more details about that soon.

In the meantime, make sure to follow along on Instagram for updates and movie news.
