My Top 10 Films of 2023″

This year, I found myself immersed in the captivating world of cinema, rediscovering the enchantment of movie theaters after years away. In a year brimming with remarkable stories, here’s my personal list of the top 10 movies that reignited my passion for the silver screen:

1. “Oppenheimer”

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – “Oppenheimer” is more than just a film; it’s a cinematic masterpiece that drew me back into theaters. Its unparalleled storytelling and performances resonated deeply, setting a new benchmark in filmmaking.

2. “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3”

Marvel’s third installment of the Guardians series charmed me with its perfect blend of humor, heart, and stunning visuals, reminding me why I adore the magic of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s sad to see James Gunn go, because we know we won’t see this version of the Guardians again, but I’m happy because it’s the perfect conclusion.

3. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”

Swinging across multiverses, this film pushed the boundaries of storytelling with breathtaking animation, making it an unforgettable cinematic journey. The animation is once again top notch. Miles Morales’ character arc is what makes these Spider-Verse movies special.

4. “Blackberry” and “The Holdovers”

Blackberry is an enigmatic gem that challenged genres and left me captivated with its thought-provoking narrative and innovative storytelling. The fact that it mixed comedy with true events makes it stand out. Glen Howerton really impressed me with his performance, in fact the whole movie is well-acted.

The Holdovers is a movie that people slept on, including myself. It’s a beautiful coming-of-age Christmas movie. It’s a story of how people can grow and change if they are loved and taken care of. Paul Giamatti deserves a bunch of rewards for his role.

5. “No Hard Feelings”

Emotionally resonant, this film lingered in my thoughts long after the credits rolled, showcasing powerful storytelling and some oddly entertaining characters. Jennifer Lawrence is back with a “bang”, pun intended. It reminds me of great R-rated comedies of the late 2000s.

6. “John Wick: Chapter 4”

The adrenaline-fueled action and gripping storyline of John Wick continued to deliver the thrills, making Chapter 4 a must-watch for me. I wondered how the franchise could go on, but just like John Wick, it grows stronger after each installment.

7. “Sound of Freedom”

Its poignant message struck a chord, shedding light on important issues and leaving a lasting impact on me. I know this is a hot take, because it is a polarising movie, but I believe it’s important to watch regardless of the opinions of the actors and director.

8. “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One”

Tom Cruise’s high-stakes action and suspense in the Mission: Impossible series never fail to keep me on the edge of my seat. This is once again one of those high octane action flicks, with an actual story. And of course we all know that Tom Cruise really puts a lot of work into his films.

9. “Killers of the Flower Moon”

With stellar performances and a captivating storyline, this historical exploration left me enthralled and deeply moved. Martin Scorsese did this really important story justice and the acting is simply brilliant.

10. “Barbie”

An unexpected delight, “Barbie” brought a pleasant surprise, offering an enjoyable cinematic experience that surpassed my expectations. And I know I’m “Kenough”. Greta Gerwig is an excellent director and her vision resonates with the world we live in.

In a year that rekindled my love for cinema, each of these films left an indelible mark on me. They transported me to different worlds, evoked emotions, and reminded me of the sheer magic woven by the art of storytelling. As I bid farewell to 2023, these cinematic journeys will remain etched in my memory, a testament to the enduring power of the big screen.
