No Plan B

This is it for me, no backup, no second shot. Nothing to fall back on. This is it.

This is it for me, no backup, no second shot. Nothing to fall back on. This is it.

Okay, maybe I can take on a few side quests just for the experience – but this Movie Guy thing is it for me. I’ve poured so much into it, that there’s no way I can abandon it now. I’m on this train and it’s full steam ahead.

I used to have all these backup plans in place in case this didn’t work out. And for some time I had to rely on those back up plans to keep me going, but none of them ever worked out. It felt more draining than fulfilling.

For most of my life I’ve wanted two things: to write stories and to be a part of stories. As The Movie Guy I get to do both. I get to share other peoples movies, TV shows and content with the world, while at the same time I have the freedom to work on my stories. I can write what I like and I can write about what I like.

I don’t know how to do anything else, so this is it for me. I might be able to pick up new skills to hone my craft, but I can’t abandon it. I won’t abandon it. I’ve been asked many times why I don’t do something else. Well, I’ve tried, but it usually ends in disaster.

I recently watched a podcast that featured Ed Sheeran and he talked about his journey as a musician. It motivated me, because he talked about having no backup plan, no plan be. He put everything he had into his plan A, because music was the only thing he excelled at.

I might not be where I want to be on my journey, but each morning I get up and keep giving it my daily best. Some days I can write a couple of reviews, record a few videos and go to a screening all in the span of a few hours. Other days it’s a struggle to get anything out, but I don’t sit back and do nothing.

What I’m doing might not cover my bills or finance a lavish lifestyle, but I hope it at least matters to others. Writing, talking about movies or TV shows, just being The Movie Guy is my plan A. I’m going to keep doing it until I have nothing left to give.

I know most people don’t understand why I do it and others just don’t want to support me, but I’m proud of the work I do. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and someday when I turn this into the brand I know it can be – then I’m going to be proud that I never gave up or walked away.
