Review – The Flash

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The DCEU is coming to a close and The Flash might be one of the franchise’s highlights.

The Flash movie, not TV show, is a fun watch so let’s talk about it. This movie spent years in development hell and it finally saw the light of day. For a movie that spent so much time in pre-production I have to say I actually love it.

It’s not the perfect movie, but there are so many elements that saved it. Number one is the performance of Ezra Miller. Regardless of his private life, he actually delivered a fantastic performance as three separate characters (no spoiler). His comedic timing was spot on.

The supporting cast was also fantastic. I wish we could get more of Sasha Calle as Supergirl, she did an amazing job bringing the character to life in the movie. Unfortunately her role was kind of limited. Who knows, maybe she will be the Supergirl of the new DCU.

Michael Keaton, what can I say except… He’s Batman. His role in the movie was phenomenal. It took me back to my childhood and he once again proofed that he is and always will be a badass. I will rewatch this movie just to see more of his fight scenes.

The movie also has several expected and unexpected cameos. Ben Affleck’s Batman once again is a scene stealer. Wonder Woman makes an appearance and we get to see some Justice League members from the multiverse.

Back to the movie, the first two acts were fantastic. It almost solidified The Flash as the best of the DCEU, but the lackluster third act dragged everything down. They could’ve come up with a better ending, right?

While I didn’t like most of the third act and I do think they had enough time to give us better special effects, I still love this movie. It’s a heartwarming, entertaining and beautiful edition to the DC Universe. Ezra Miller delivered on all fronts and the story of his mother at the forefront made Barry Allen relatable. Literally nothing can replace the love of a mother.

It’s kind of hard to rate this movie, there is so much I love about it but on the other side it failed on so many fronts. You know what… I’m going to focus on how it made me feel. And that should be enough. This movie is great and a lot of fun. I’ve been recommending it to everyone, because I think everyone can relate to the characters.

Regardless of what it failed to achieve, it has plenty of redeeming qualities. It’s a good sent off to some of the DCEU characters and it also provides ways for the DCU to tie into the movies that came before. So I just have to go with 4 stars.
