What a year, right? I know we’re only in March, but it’s been quite eventful so far and that’s why I decided to end things right here.
It’s been great sharing my story and my new journey with everyone, but by now people are probably annoyed by it. That’s why I decided to end this series and to just share my eternal gratitude. I’m grateful for each and everyone who opened the link and read each chapter.
All views make me feel like I’m at least doing one thing right… So thank you for taking the time to read about my journey, each like and share is something special. This final chapter is also my way to share some good news with everyone.
I don’t know where I found the time, but according to my Letterboxd account, I’ve watched 56 movies this year and that doesn’t even include all the new and returning TV shows I’ve watched. This is way more movies than I watched all last year. I guess I can really call myself The Movie Guy now.
I set out to be one of the best movie and pop culture content creator from Namibia a few years ago and it finally feels like I might get there. I’m not leaving Namibia behind, I just came to Cape Town to try and give myself a fighting chance. The only way I can do this is to actually go behind-the-scenes and to see more films.
I haven’t been able to go to every single film screening so far, because transport is expensive. But thanks to some donations I’ve been able to go watch some amazing movies in cinema, these include Argylle, Lukas, Frankie en Felipé, Dune: Part Two, and Bob Marley: One Love. Next up is Kung Fu Panda 4, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, The First Omen, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, The Fall Guy and some awesome Netflix shows.
And some more exciting news, I’m going to Comic Con Cape Town this year. I got my media accreditation and I’m totally stoked to be part of it again. This year will be special, because there will be panels focused on filmmaking and writing, as well as content creating and so much more. I’ll share more on this next week.
And you know what, I think I may want to continue this filmmaking thing. I love telling stories and I want to see my stories unfold through motion pictures. So fingers crossed I will be able to learn a thing or two during these panels. I might just get what I need to start my next project.
And back to my journey… 2024 is the year I want to fully commit myself to my dreams. I want to finish my second draft for my feature script, Ek is Bruin. I want to get my poetry out there, especially my latest bundle, Broken + Healed. I want to write at least 3 short stories, to start my Ordinary People anthology series and I want to write scripts for at least 2 short films. And most importantly I want to grow The Movie Guy far bigger than I could ever imagine.
I also have a few things planned on the recipe side of things. I hope I can do all this, it is high mountain to climb but it’s time I do stuff that give me purpose. This is just me, a guy who loves movies and everything that it entails.
Thank you for following my journey. I hope you keep checking in to see what’s going on in the world of film. TV, pop culture and everything in between. I appreciate you coming along on this journey with me. Please follow me on social media.
I need all the help I can get. Being in Cape Town also isn’t cheap, so if you want to make a donation then please contact me or find my banking details below. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
