So you might be wondering who is this guy who calls himself The Movie Guy… Well, this is me…
I’m just a dude who started as a journalist and thought it might be smart to talk about movies, TV shows and all things pop culture. Was it a good idea? Maybe. Am I loving it? Totally. It has been quite the journey so far.
As I said, I started out as a journalist and I worked my way through print media, to radio and back to print media. And that’s where I decided that my love for film has to come through somehow. It first started as a weekly movie review blog in the Windhoek Express and evolved into The Movie Guy.
I wanted to do more than just blog posts on movies I just watched, and so I started doing videos. That didn’t last long, because I didn’t have the right tools. I decided to get back to writing and that’s how I wrote my way into Comic Con Africa 2019. My first pop culture event.
Soon after, the pandemic came and I was left with no work to do. Well I still wrote blog posts every other month, but it wasn’t enough. Slowly but surely, The Movie Guy started dying, and I even lost access to my social media pages.
Thankfully in 2022 things started to get better. I wrote as much as I could and I restarted my Facebook and Instagram pages and I decided to try TikTok, which I have to admit helped a lot. TikTok led me to bringing life to my YouTube channel again.
I made shorts and long videos and I tried to post as frequently as possible and somehow it worked. I reached my goal before the end of 2022 and it felt like I accomplished something. On the social media side of things, my Instagram posts reached over 200 000 people, I just have to grow my following.
I also got to go back to Comic Con Africa and I started including other event in my coverage, like the Windhoek Oktoberfest, which was a blast. All-in-all, I just want to thank everyone who supported me during 2022.
So who am I? I’m Spider-M… I’m the Movie Guy. Not a critic, not a crazy fan, not an expert, just a guy who loves movies, TV, pop culture, comics, video games and everything that goes along with it. I can’t wait to share my plans for 2023 with you all.
