Disney and Pixar have officially announced that Grammy Award-winning South African superstar Tyla will join the cast of Toy Story 5 in a special role!
Tyla makes her Disney voice acting debut as the character ‘Inflatable Flamingo,’ bringing her signature energy and personality into the beloved animated franchise. The role is part of a regional version of the film, highlighting local voice talent for audiences in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The announcement comes just ahead of the film’s theatrical release on 19 June 2026.
Tyla expressed her excitement about joining the iconic franchise, calling it a full-circle moment. She shared that Toy Story was a meaningful part of her childhood and said it was especially significant to be part of a version of the film that will be experienced by African audiences with an African voice included.
In Toy Story 5, the familiar toys return for a new adventure as they face their most modern challenge yet: “Toy meets Tech.” Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and the rest of the gang find their roles questioned when they encounter Lilypad, a new tablet device that introduces disruptive ideas about how playtime should work for Bonnie.
The film continues the long-running Pixar franchise and brings back familiar voices including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack, alongside new additions such as Greta Lee and Conan O’Brien. Directed by Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 is set to continue the emotional and comedic legacy of the series while exploring the clash between traditional play and modern technology.
