Valentine’s Day Movie Recommendation

The “season of love” is here and what better way to spend it then with an awesome movie.

The “season of love” is here and what better way to spend it then with an awesome movie.

If you’re like me, then you’ll probably be all alone on Valentine’s Day fantasizing about the perfect love story. The best way to get through it is to watch a fictional love story. Or maybe you’re looking for the perfect romantic movie to watch with your significant other – either way I’ve got you covered.

I am a sucker for a good romcom, but I sometimes love getting lost in a classic drama like The Notebook. Most perfect romcoms come from the 1980s-2000s period. So let’s take a look at what I recommend for you on this Valentine’s Day.

The Notebook

Known as the film that made all the ladies fall in love with Ryan Gosling, this movie is a pure romance drama that fits perfectly into the Valentine’s Day theme. The movie is set in the 1940s and tells the story of mill worker Noah and a rich girl, Allie, who are in love but her parents do not approve. This movie creates a sense of what pure love can be like.

Titanic

This well-known romantic disaster flick is loved worldwide, regardless of its tragic ending. The film is set on the Titanic and tells the story of how Jack falls in love with Rose. This movie is still popular and ideal for a couch date. I don’t know what it is about this movie, but it seems to age like fine wine. Just don’t forget the tissues.

The Proposal

If you are not in the mood for a soppy romantic movie, try this Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds romantic comedy. It delivers a lot of laughs and it is great to help you unwind after a stressful day. It’s genuinely one of those fun comedies that later on got copied by a bunch of other filmmakers.

Sleepless in Seattle

Widow Sam and his son Jonah move to Seattle. One night, Jonah calls in to a radio show seeking a new wife for his father. This is another one of those classic love stories that inspired decades of romantic films. It’s always great to go back to the stories that give off a wholesome feel. There’s just something special about these classic love stories.

I Still Believe

This is a personal favourite. It’s a story about a song… But what inspired it is what makes it beautiful. The film is about a Christian artist who meets the love of his life, only for her to be diagnosed with terminal cancer. I Still Believe is an inspiring true story that breaks my heart every single time.

Deadpool

This is where it gets weird, but at it’s core Deadpool is love story. It is a romantic comedy that just happens to have a superhero as the lead. This one is definitely more for the guys, but it has a true love story that can resonate with everyone. The film might seem over the top, but it can bring some excitement to a boring date. And with the third Deadpool coming out soon, it’s probably time for a re-watch.

The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2

I know people are going to hate me for this, but The Amazing Spider-Man movies have the best love story. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are the perfect Peter and Gwen combo. The love they share on screen is the love so many of us hope to build. The tragic end to their love story just makes it so much more intriguing, and at least Peter got his redemption in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Twilight

I should probably stop with the hot takes, but I think the Twilight-saga has an amazing love story. You might not love the movies, but Bella and Edward don’t care because they’ve got their eternal happily ever after. Just go re-watch the movies and enjoy it for it is – a classic romance between “monster” and woman.

Crazy Rich Asians

This is one of the more modern romcoms, and it is absolutely brilliant. This is one of my favourite comedies from the last decades. It’s one of those films that make you believe in love again. It’s simply wonderful. I think it’s save to say that is a modern classic and perfect for a Valentine’s Day watch.

Pretty in Pink

It was hard choosing between Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles, but for now Pretty in Pink takes the lead. This is another one of those fun, deep and wholesome 80s comedies. It has a story that was relevant then and can still be relevant now. John Hughes really made a bunch of timeless classics.

50 First Dates

I was supposed to do 10 movies, but then I remembered this Adam Sandler classic. A movie that I’ve probably seen 10 or 20 times. It is a guilty pleasure, but I don’t feel guilty for loving it because it is simply awesome.

So have fun this Valentine’s Day, kids. And make good choices, like watching good movies.
