Valentine’s Day on Showmax

It’s the month of love and what says, "I love you", better than watching the best romcoms together (or alone), on the couch, and with your favourite snacks.

This one is going out to all my single people and couples. Romantic comedies are for everyone, you might even forget you’re single for a while. Showmax has some of the best romcoms to choose from. So here are a few romantic comedies you can catch up on this Valentine’s Day.

1. Anyone But You

A modern take on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, following two rivals forced to fake a romance with unexpected sparks. This R-rated comedy might not be for everyone, but Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell have amazing chemistry, and I strongly believe that this is actually a great movie.

2. Bridesmaids

A laugh-out-loud comedy about wedding chaos, lifelong friendships, and the struggles of being a bridesmaid. Bridesmaids is a classic that requires an annual re-watch. It gets better with each watch and the best part is, the jokes don’t get old or stale.

3. Pitch Perfect

Aca-awesome musical romcom about an all-female college acapella group, unexpected love, and intense singing competitions. Pitch Perfect is one of my favourite musicals, Anna Kendrick is one of my favourite people. And this film will always have a special place in my heart.

4. Bridget Jones’s Diary

Bridget, a quirky and relatable woman, juggles love, career struggles, and embarrassing moments in this beloved classic. Another classic that you just shouldn’t sleep on. And now is the perfect time to re-watch this film-series, as the new one will be in cinemas soon.

5. Notting Hill

A humble bookseller’s life turns upside down when he falls for a glamorous movie star in this charming London-based romance. This movie might be the perfect romcom and I’m only saying that because my sister forced us to watch it over and over again when we were kids.

6. Hitch

A smooth-talking dating coach helps men find love, but his own dating life takes an unexpected twist when he meets his match. There’s no way I could leave Hitch of this list, to me it’s not your typical romcom, but Will Smith and Eva Mendes is the perfect pair.

7. 50 First Dates

A man falls for a woman with short-term memory loss and must make her fall in love with him every single day. This is hands down my favourite romcom on the list. I’ve watched this movie at least 50 times and each time feels like the first. This is my pick to watch on Valentine’s Day.

8. The Break-Up

A couple’s bitter split turns into a hilarious battle of wills as they refuse to move out of their shared apartment. How is a break up movie a romcom? Well, just watch it and you’ll see. This movie is hillarious and I demand that you watch it.

9. I Love You, Man

A bromantic comedy about a groom-to-be struggling to find a best man, leading to unexpected and hilarious friendships. I recently re-watched this and I was smiling and laughing all the way through. It is funny, sad and awesome. I even started listening to Rush because of this movie.

10. Mamma Mia!

A vibrant, music-filled story about love, family, and the search for identity, all set to the timeless songs of ABBA. I know, another musical. But there’s no way you can’t love this movie. It has one of the best ensembles and the story is brilliant. It’s a must-watch for all couples.

Get your favorite snacks and enjoy a night of laughter, romance, and unforgettable moments!
