They finally arrived; the battle of the century finally debuted and was it really that great?
Godzilla vs. Kong was supposed to be the biggest showdown of the year, but did it live up to the hype? In my opinion, yes! It might have its flaws, but it the movie definitely has enough monster fights to keep you entertained for 2 hours.
Let’s be frank, the only reason most of us want to see this movie, is to see the giant monkey and radioactive lizard fight, we don’t care about the humans. I guess that’s why the human characters hardly have any development.
There’s a consipiracy theorist, a reluctant hero, a few kids and a generic villain, but they’re not so important because, MONSTERS! The titans definitely steal the show, with King Kong basically being the main character.
It’s good that Kong gets more screen time, because Godzilla already got two movies and he only got one. Kong proves himself worthy, while Godzilla proves why he is the real king of the monsters. The fights between them are spectacular and might hint at more movies in the future.
The movie also takes things to an even deeper science fiction level, that it almost becomes fantasy. I know that’s probably what they were going for, but it kind of felt they like they were trying the push it down the audience’s throat.
Other than then weak human characters with good acting and a script that lacks a little substance, the movie was awesome. It delivers on a franchise that about 7 years in the making and it introduces more kaiju along the way.
Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home. Along for the ride is Jia, an orphaned girl who has a unique and powerful bond with the mighty beast. However, they soon find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla as he cuts a swath of destruction across the globe. The initial confrontation between the two titans — instigated by unseen forces — is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the planet.
My Verdict
This movie is worth watching. If you’re a fan of sci-fi, action or fantasy movies, then this film will bring you to the edge of your seat. I know I will have to watch it again, because who doesn’t love kaiju showdowns.
My Rating: 7.1 out of 10 – Good
